Embarking on this project, I delved into simple ballpoint pen sketches reminiscent of schoolbook doodles, reminiscent of those made during a lecture. I relished the unrestricted nature of these drawings. Opting for a large-scale approach, I fused numerous small doodles to form a cohesive image. I intentionally refrained from overthinking my creations, as I often find myself fixating on specific imagery rather than embracing the art-making process. Preferring abstraction over intricate realism, I aimed to break free from the confines of detail, which can sometimes deter me from completing a drawing. Additionally, I envisaged some of these sketches transformed into 3D abstract sculptures, adorned with vibrant, bold colours.

In these explorations, I opted to translate certain ballpoint pen shapes into larger-scale drawings, envisioning them as potential abstract sculptures. I delved into experimenting with colour and contrast in watercolour paintings, aiming to vividly conceptualize the desired aesthetic for these sculptures. Incorporating a touch of pop art influence, I envisaged classic black lines outlining the form of the sculpture, adding a defining element to the composition.

Furthermore, I delved into digital drawings derived from watercolour images, exploring different size and shape ratios. I found pleasure in the diverse range of outcomes yielded by these experiments, which opened up endless possibilities in terms of perspective, layout, and colour vibrancy.

Clay Experimentation:
In exploring clay sculpting, I chose to translate one of my doodle-like drawings into a tangible 3D form. This decision stems from my desire to deepen my understanding of sculptural techniques and identify the most suitable medium for my artistic vision. I find clay to be exceptionally versatile for realizing my concepts, allowing me to capture the essence of my envisioned sculpture with precision. Envisioning the potential for a series, I aim to create smaller-scale iterations, envisioning an entire village of unconventional architectural abstract sculptures. The accompanying image captures my inaugural clay sculpture in its drying phase, soon to be fired in the kiln and glazed.

During the glazing stage of my clay sculpture, I found great satisfaction in crafting my own personalized glaze. Using a high-pressure spray, I applied the blue glaze, ensuring an even distribution across the sculpture's intricate crevices and curves.

As anticipated, my clay sculpture emerged with a notably smooth surface, yet it exhibited minor cracks and impurities scattered throughout the piece.

These photographs depict my sculpture post-glazing and kiln firing. I appreciate the boldness of the blue hue, although it differs from my initial vision of a softer pastel tone. Exploring various locations for capturing images of this piece was enjoyable. In my perspective, this sculpture evokes the semblance of a peculiar creature rather than a building, unlike my other works. Consequently, I've chosen to christen this creature sculpture 'Lapis'. Remarkably, this marks the first instance where I've felt compelled to assign a name to my artwork.
